Guest Speaker Forum – Battery Energy storage: Technology options and economic considerations

11 March 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Nicholas leads the Application Engineering team at Australian Energy storage provider Ecoult.   His team works across KW and MW systems.  The team seeks out new applications that can benefit from the Ecoult UltraBattery, Invented by CSIRO in Melbourne, Australia.  Nicholas has over 10 years experience as a Power and Control Engineer and has focussed on renewable energy and smart grids.  Prior to joining Ecount, Nicholas was the leas engineer at Ausgrid for the Energy Resource Management Stream of The Australian Governmnet.

Nicholas will describe the viability of various singel=purpose energy storage applications and explain how the multi=purposing ability of modern batteries can create more successful business cases with environmental and financial benefits.  While a battery customer may only desire stored energy, technologies like the UltraBattery allow grid operators to work with those customers to strengthen weak grids, increase renewables and provide ancillary grid services.  Nicholas will reference a case study of a multi-purpose MW-scale project Ecoult is developing in USA.
