Growers and Producers Long Lunch
October 27 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm$79.00
The Growers and Producers Long Lunch is an important annual event that raises awareness of, celebrates, and showcases the quality of fresh food produced and the primary production capacity of local farmers. Now more than ever when economic recovery is paramount, it is critical to support primary producers, the 300+ working farms across the Southern Highlands, Shoalhaven and Wollondilly. Proactively supporting farmers is the only practical way to preserve the semi-rural ambience of the region which is a unique point of difference highly valued by residents and visitors and to maintain viable food & wine sectors, and the overall visitor economy including agritourism and education tourism. If farmers choose to sell their land because traditional farming is not viable or appealing there is very little that can be done to prevent urban sprawl. The Southern Highlands has a unique opportunity to proudly own being the last line of defence to maintain fresh food production in the greater Sydney basin. The UTS Sydney Food Futures Report identified that if there was a strategic intervention to support agriculture in the SouthernHighlands, Shoalhaven and Wollondilly, each of those Local Government Areas could increase fresh food production by 1 million tonnes a year. The economic value and associated jobs represents exponential growth potential. An innovative approach to regenerative farming and focusing on nutrition, yield and profitable distribution channels will benefit the entire supply chain and drive skills training, education and education tourism.
We are delighted that Regional Development Australia Southern Inland is the Major Event Sponsor for the third successive year. The event would literally not be possible without that support.
